Bernd Schäfer becomes new CEO of apt Group

Following 20 years of successful service for apt as Managing Partner/CEO of apt Group, Frans Kurvers decided to withdraw from the operative business and to pass the overall responsibility to his successor Bernd Schäfer. Bernd Schäfer will be appointed Managing Director from 1st September 2017 and will take over the full responsibility as CEO from Frans Kurvers after a short transition period.

Bernd Schäfer started working in the aluminium sector in 1999. In 2008 he joined Alcoa, his most recent employment there being Vice President Commercial/Global Commercial Transportation & Industrial with Arconic. In this position, he was responsible for the global strategy and marketing of rolled products for the segments 'Industrial & Commercial Transportation'. After his studies of business administration, Bernd Schäfer built up extensive experience in the stainless steel and nickel business. Before joining Alcoa, Bernd Schäfer, had held senior positions for the rolled product segments of Hydro Aluminium and Alcan. He is Chairman of the Fachverband Aluminiumhalbzeug within the German aluminium association (GDA-Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie e.V., Düsseldorf).
